Con-Cor will release two new groups of "N" Intermodal Container cars in early 2003.
As you watch the modern railroads of today you see fewer and fewer of the traditional "boxcars" or "reefers". Intermodal means containerized boxes that can be easily transferred from a highway truck chassis, to railcar,and then back to a highway truck chassis, or put on board a ship for transfer to an international destination. This system was
developed to reduce labor and damage and pilferage in handling cargo. Probably in another 20 years you will never see
a "boxcar" or "reefer" on the rails, as everything will be containerized (even liquid cargos).
Group #1 will be an 89 Ft "N" Flat die-cast flatcar with either two trailer trucks, or two containers mounted.
Group #2 will be "Twin Stack" container cars with two containers on top of one another.
