Con-Con 'Rt. 66'© Custom Vehicle FAQs
Common Questions
and Answers about our "Rt 66"© models.
We have listed below
some of the most common questions and answers about our product
line. If you need more information after reading through this
brochure, please feel free to call or fax us.
What size are the
Con-Cor "Rt 66" © vehicles?
We
have items available in two basic sizes;
HO Scale
( 1/87, which is approximately 1/8 inch = 1 foot; So a typical
Semi-Tractor Trailer truck as seen on the highway which is about
65-70 Ft long translates into a model that is about 8 to 9 inches
long. The actual lenght will vary depending on which combination
of tractor and lenght of trailer you choose to reproduce.
N Scale
(1/160, which is approximately 1/16 inch = 1 foot; So a typical
Semi-Tractor Trailer truck as seen on the highway which is about
65-70 Ft long translates into a model that is about 4-4/12 inches
long. The actual lenght will vary depending on which combination
of tractor and lenght of trailer you choose to reproduce.
Our
HO line is more complete, with over 100 combinations of tractors
and trailers available.
What are they made
of?
All
of our Route 66ª items are highly detailed plastic scale models.
We make them primarily for model vehicle collectors who want
a higher degree of detail than a typical die-cast metal model.
Our items are very high quality and very highly detailed, something
your or your client will be proud to use, and they will project
a very high quality image of the company using them as a premium
item.
Can we order a "Custom"
body style that Con-Cor does not make, or a different size other
than HO or N scale?
Our
models are made from steel molds which are designed for high
volumes of 100,000 and more production runs. A new set of steel
moulds (including design times) can take a year until production
begins, and cost anywhere from $25,000 for a simple model &
upwards of $100,000 on more complicated models. Hence production
of a Custom body styles for orders under 100,000
pcs. is not cost effective for us.
Are Con-Cor "Rt 66"©
models produced in the USA, or overseas?
We have
three sources. One factory here in Tucson Arizona, a factory
in Germany, and one in China. Each plant produces a different
segment of our product line, so until we know your exact needs,
we can not tell you where your order will be produced.
Can I get a sample?
Yes,
there are two different kinds of samples.
#1) The first kind is a "random" imprinted sample of one our
existing trucks which we normally sell through toy and hobby
shops all over the USA. We charge a $10.00 fee for these samples,
which includes Priority Mail delivery to any USA address. If
you wish expeditied Overnight delivery, we will add the appropiate
shipping charges to the $10.00 basic fee. Unfortunately, due
to past collection problems, we can not ship these samples without
advance payment. We can accept most major credit cards for payment
at the time of ordering the sample.
#2) The 2nd kind of sample is the hand-made custom sample with
your custom paint and logo imprinted. We will provide this at
no charge once you have issued a Purchase Order for a custom
truck (minimum 504 pc). This will be available about 35-45 days
after final artwork has been approved. We have allowed approx.
15 days in our normal delivery schedule of 120 days for turnaround
time on your final approval of this sample.
Your price list says
120 days can this be shorter?
Our
schedule works out as follows:
#1)
Once artwork has been released for production, it takes about
35-45 days to produce a hand sample of the final truck with
all the colors and graphics in place for your approval.
#2)
We allow about 15 days for approval to get back to us, as we
realize sometimes the final Approval is the result of more than
one person and may take a week or more to get back to us.
#3)
Once the final approval of the sample has been received, we
have to put the item in our firm production schedule and make
the production run, this takes usually about 30-35 days.
#4)
Since most of the trucks are made overseas, once production
is finished, it takes about 30 days for the cargo to arrive
at our warehouse before it is shipped to you. All of the above
takes about 120 days, we can eliminate about 3 weeks of this
schedule if the client wishes to pay the difference between
sea cargo and air freight to the USA. This will average about
75-90 cents additional per truck. (We will charge the actual
cost of the air cargo to you minus what the consolidated sea
cargo would have been.)
Is my truck an exclusive?
Of
course, if an item is produced by us for you as a premium item,
you have the rights to that item. We will not sell it to another
customer.
In
some cases we may wish to add a truck to our regular product
line. If so, we will obtain prior permission to do so. Adding
an item to our line gives your client free advertising and longer
market exposure, as his trucks will appear in almost 1,500 hobby
shops all across the USA. If we request permission, and it is
granted, we will waive all artwork and set-up charges at our
end on that model. We can also delay using that model in our
line for six months or so, so that the impact of that model's
use by you or your client is not diminished.
Why do your need
a license or release from the company whose name will appear on
the model truck ?
Most
companies today have registered their trade name and logos as
trademarks. We can not produce a model of a truck that uses
a registered trademark as part of the decoration without authorization
from the firm owning the trademark.
We have
a standard license agreement which we will provide you with
to be completed by the owner of the trademark.
Why is your minimum
order 504 pieces?
Our
decorating process uses expensive spray masks, and the imprinting
is done by pad printing, which uses photo-etched printing plates.
These are quite expensive to produce, and often more than one
is needed for the job. The printing is transferred directly
onto the models using a screen-printing type ink. We do not
use decals. Because of the time involved to get all the parts
molded for a production run (most tractor-trailers are made
up of about 50 separate parts); the plates needed for the pre-production
sample, assembly and production of the samples, faxes / communication
back and forth to the customer and the production planning;
it is just not cost effective for the prices we offer to amortize
our front end costs on a run of less than 504 pieces.
Our
trucks are not like key-tags or other fairly simple items where
"one size fits all" and only the imprint changes. Each job is
different, and can get fairly complex. Because of the wide variety
of combinations of tractors + trailers that can be made using
our various components, we do not inventory a large number of
un-imprinted trucks, for no matter how many thousands of trucks
we stocked, the next order would probably require a combination
of components that we did not have on hand, hence each job
is really a "Custom Job" and it is not practical to run
less than 504 pieces and make any profit.
Can I buy a small
quantity of Undecorated trucks and use my own decals etc.?
You are welcome
to buy undecorated trucks. However, for the reason outlined
above, we do not stock a large number of undecorated
trucks. A custom order for undecorated trucks will still take
about 90 days to produce for you and again, because of the
set-up of the molds involved the minimum for undecorated trucks
is still 504 pc. However, from time to time we may have from
a few dozen to possibly 150 of some undecorated trucks in
our warehouse, and we would be happy to sell them to you,
just call (520-721-8939) and ask the current availability
of undecorated models "In Stock" in our Tucson warehouse.
