All Con-Cor Freight and Passenger Trucks have METAL WHEELSETS at no additional cost !

     We admit we have been behind the curve on couplers on our "N" Freight and Passenger Cars, but with the introduction of our new "Interchangeable" "N" coupler system, we feel we not only have caught up, but are now ahead of the curve.
     There are at least 5 different "N" Coupler Systems currently in use. The orginal Rapido "Flapper" coupler, the Micro-Trains® brand couplers, the Accumate Coupler System, the new McHenry operating knuckle couplers, and a variety of brands of non-operating dummy couplers.
     Each system has it followers, and both advantages and dis-advantages.
     Micro-Trains is widely used, by maybe 60% -65% of the "N" modelers as far as our surveys can tell. But its big dis-advantage is its cost, it adds about $4.00 to $6.00 to the retail price of rolling stock.
     But on the other hand there are thousands of modelers who are watching their pocket books, and are in fact "runners" who do not spend a lot of time switching cars in the yard. They just want a dependable coupler System that will let them run trains with reliablity, including those long "N-Trak" Unit Trains we always see on the "N-Trak" Layouts at the various Train Shows.
     The other issue is the appearance of the coupler, all modelers want a "realistic" looking knuckle coupler.
     So we here at Con-Cor set out to design a new coupler that would achieve the following...

Have the appearance of a real coupler
Be interchangeable with the Micro-Trains® brand knuckle
But also be available in a non-working version to offer a low cost choice for our customers

And we have achieved that with our new Con-Cor Knuckle Coupler System!
Perfect Mate with Micro Trains® brand !
#1)   The new Con-Cor coupler is available in a non-operating Jaw version that is a perfect "mate" to the Micro-Trains® brand couplers. You can run cars with the Con-Cor couplers in the same train as Micro-Trains® without incident. But if you run trains of "all" Con-Cor rigid jaw couplers, you can pull long trains without de-coupling problems, and not have problems with pulled or broken knuckles.
Interchangeable with a Micro-Trains® Knuckle "Jaw" !
#2)   We have designed our Con-Cor coupler box so it is very easy to install a standard Micro-Trains® "loop-shank" knuckle coupler inside if you change your mind later, and want to replace the Con-Cor "rigid jaw" with a working Micro-Trains® knuckle.
Better Centering with "U" centering spring design.
#3)   We have designed our Con-Cor knuckle with a "U" shape centering spring, so it has a higher reliablity to return to the centerline than some other brands that use an offset spring.
Con-Cor Rigid Jaw Coupler Even has a "trip pin".
#4)   In keeping with our desire to have a realistic coupler, we even designed in a fake "trip pin" which simulates the between car air-hoses, but also when mixed in a train of Micro-Train® brand couplers, you can not tell the difference between Con-Cor and MicroTrains even when only inches away!
Con-Cor Trucks come with metal wheelsets.
#5)   In keeping with our desire to have the best rolling trucks, all Con-Cor "N" Freight and Passenger Trucks come equipped with metal wheelsets.

#5)   We will begin delivering all Con-Cor Rolling Stock with either the Rigid Knuckle or Micro-Trains® Knuckle about August lst. 2010. Yes, they are only a few weeks away! So make sure when ordering you specify which couplers you want on your Con-Cor Trains model !

    Note: you will be receiving a pair of truck frames with our rigid couplers mounted. Wheetsets are not included with your free samples, but any Con-Cor wheelsets off any Con-Cor car made in the last 40 years will fit into these new side frames, so you can test them out on your layout, or a friend's layout. Limit one free pair per customer.

Con-Cor has made Conversion of older Con-Cor Rolling stock SIMPLE and EASY for you to do.
    Here are your Choices:

Do nothing and continue to use the old "flapper couplers", Con-Cor will have the older "flapper couplers" still available on special order only direct from the factory if you Choose to continue to use them. (But they might not be available on some items any longer if the coupler mounting area has been changed to accept the new design in our molds.
You can buy just one pair of the New Couplers and just convert one end only of two other cars to create two transition cars between the old coupler and our new couplers.
You can convert your cars over time using our Conversion Choices as listed below. We have Trucks and couplers available seperately so you can re-cycle your old Con-Cor wheelsets off older cars (metal wheelsets are the most expensive component of a truck set to manufacture.)
All Con-Cor Freight and Passenger cars have used an axle lenght of 0.0560 +/- .005 inches since we started to make "N" scale in 1967.
"T" shank Rigid Jaw version available for body mount. (See next to last item on Price List below)
Most Con-Cor "N" cars can be converted with just the basic truck and coupler set, but a few require the addition of a shim, or slightly longer mounting pins.(These are available, see last item on Price list below.) For your convenience, we have put a Conversion chart on line listing all our car groups, indicating which might need the use of extra bolster shims etc.
